I have bouts of insomnia so a good night's sleep is very important to me. I found that using
a good mattress topper is a great way to make a bed more comfortable. A comfortable bed helps me
get off to sleep much easier. A mattress topper has other benefits besides added comfort and they
are usually priced very reasonably. The mattress covers can be bought online or at any number of
         retail stores across the country.

I discovered the values of a mattress cover a couple of years ago, but it took me awhile to find the
right one. I originally bought a down mattress topper, but I found that the ones in my price range
had much to be desired. The mattress topper made the bed feel so soft and comfortable that I just
thought it was the most magnificent thing on earth. I slept soundly and peacefully for the first
         few months.

I know that down is a feathery filling for pillows that can be used for mattress toppers. However,
I never really realized that down is actually feathers. The cheaper mattress covers are filled
with down feathers that have little quills. After a person sleeps on the mattress topper for a
few months, those little quills start breaking through the topper. They do this because they are
sharp. This means that the person sleeping on said topper winds up being poked with small, sharp
quills during the night. This is not comfortable.

The other problem I had with my down mattress topper was that I couldn't wash it. It was dry
clean only and I didn't have the ambition to run to the drycleaners frequently enough to feel that
the mattress topper was clean. Some may argue that we don't wash our mattresses, but one of
the benefits of a mattress cover is that it protects the mattress from dirt and soil and that dirt and
soil wind up in the topper. A washable topper is ideal.

I found a down alternative mattress topper that I fell in love with. It is every bit as comfortable
as the new down mattress cover, and it doesn't threaten to poke at me throughout the night.
It is easy to wash and it dries as quickly as a fluffy comforter. My down alternative comforter
was less expensive than the one filled with actual down feathers and that makes me very happy.
I can sleep well knowing that I have an affordable, comfortable and washable cover that will lessen the
wear and tear on my mattress.

When it comes to home remodeling, the importance of detail is often overlooked. But it's the
details that bring your individual style and personality to the project. One of the most inexpensive
ways to enhance a room is by using light to transform the space. A small detail like accent lighting
can be just as important as the floor plan to the look of the room when the final product is finished.

There are many choices in accent lighting from table lamps and floor lamps to track lighting and in-wall
or in-ceiling fixtures. When decorating your home, lighting should never be overlooked or considered
an insignificant detail. Light can make the difference between a cold room and a warm room, and
the accent lighting you choose will go beyond function and set the tone you want to establish in your
         home.

The first step is to survey the room and look for any dark corners or shadowy areas. Choosing the
right accent lighting can be as simple as finding the perfect lamp for a table in a far corner of the
room that is not reached by the room's larger lighting fixtures. Next you want to make sure
that the accent lighting you choose for a room will be functional and not interfere with the flow of
the room. This means no stray cords in the middle of the floor or placing lamps where they could
be knocked over. A few years ago there were a series of halogen lamps on the market that became
too hot even started fires when they were placed too close to walls and ceilings. You should always
keep safety in mind when choosing appropriate lighting for your home.

Installing small lights under the cabinets in the kitchen is a good way to provide accent lighting along
the countertop without the hassle and clutter of cords and wires from lamps. Because the kitchen
is used to prepare food, you want the accent lighting in this room to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Another place where accent lighting should be functional is the bathroom. Selecting a decorative
but functional track light over the sink or a set of two separate wall fixtures on either side can enhance
the appearance of the room without interfering with the purpose of the room.

If you have a piece of artwork that is particularly spectacular, you can order special accent lighting
that will highlight the piece. Rather than getting lost on the wall, the art will stand out and
serve as a main focal point in the room. And even if your art is nothing special, the right accent
lighting can turn a simple picture into a work of art, creating depth in the piece that would otherwise
         go unnoticed.

the fireplace is an actual working unit.[...]

Many older homes boast beautiful fireplaces that are as appealing to the eye as they are functional.
With modern advances in furnace heating many builders saw no use for the structures in the home.
The furnace did the heating in these homes. However, many homeowners want to add this feature to
their family rooms and living rooms. You don't need to have a working fireplace to build a
         fireplace mantel in your home.

The fireplace itself is simply a hole in the wall. The mantle is a decorative element that is added
for eye appeal. This popular framing element often becomes the focal point of the room. Many
homeowners build a fireplace mantel for decorative purposes alone.

This may not make sense to an older generation that perceives the unit as a functional piece of architecture.
However, the primary focal point of the architecture is not the place where the fire is actually set.
That is just an empty space until you add wood and flames. The visual bulk of a fireplace is decorative
         in nature.

For this reason, many homeowners choose to build a fireplace mantel whether or not they actually have
a fireplace. This trend in many newer homes has become almost mainstay. There are a few innovative
additions to the decorative feature that can provide old-fashioned style or sleek, modern sophistication.

Some homeowners simply put candles in the decorative fireplace unit. The glow of the candles is
reminiscent of the flames of a traditional fire but they do not require a flue. This attractive
approach is often used when the homeowners build a fireplace mantle and when the fireplace is an actual
         working unit.

On rare occasions, people will build a fireplace mantel that houses a waterfall. Burning candles
that glow through the stream of water can be found behind the waterfall. This magnificent indoor
water feature was highlighted on Home and Garden Television. The brilliant combination of fire
and water is relaxing and charming.

You may want to build a fireplace mantle for your own home. There are a couple of options to consider.
There are pre-made units ready to be installed but if you are handy with tools you can save some money
by choosing to build a fireplace mantel from scratch.

Whether you choose to install a pre-made mantel or whether you choose to build a fireplace mantel on
your own, you have made the first step to creating a warm, welcoming environment in your home.

Aw man, there's all that stuff just piled up in the garage again. Where in the world does it
all come from? Oh, no worries; I'll just check the storage room. It's probably practically
empty anyway. That's when a massive pile of stuff comes pouring down on me. Now this
is a real predicament. However, what can I do to maximize on the little space I have and store
all of these random belongings in a neat and orderly fashion?

Wait, I've got it. I'll simply cram them all in a few of those yard debris garbage bags.
That will work perfectly, right? Okay, so that's not such a bright move, but the fact of the
matter is there most likely aren't too many solutions other than building another room or storage
shed. What am I griping about? Of course there is an alternative option close at hand, and
it's not even a pricey one. I'm referring to rubbermaid storage containers. Do you
         have some yet?

What is it with humans? Are we collectors or what? Why is it that we always strive to collect
more and more stuff? Do we even need most of this stuff? Well, the answer is probably NO.
Regardless, for some odd reason we think that we do. Eventually we end up purchasing bigger houses
so that we can store all of our belongings. Have you ever stopped to think about this? It's
pretty sad and a little mad to boot.

What are we trying to accomplish? Are we actually trying to win an award for having the nicest
stuff? Forget it! With folks out there like Bill Gates, individuals like you and me don't
stand a chance. Although we will continue to buy, buy, and buy more, the clutter issue doesn't
have to remain. Pick up a few rubbermaid storage containers. My wife and I have been taking
advantage of these for years. I simply love the small rubbermaid storage containers for my daughter's
         playroom.

These are ideal for holding toys. In addition, to make things easier, you can label each and every
one of your rubbermaid storage containers so that it won't take long to find a particular book, toy,
blanket, or decoration. In this hectic world where space doesn't come cheap, nifty rubbermaid
storage containers are the perfect solution. If you're interested in saving space and eliminating

A circle or semi-circle of couches and chairs facing inward toward each other, surrounding a coffee table
of some kind, is a much better suited living room design for entertaining guests.[...]

There's two basic living room designs you'll want to consider depending on what your needs are.
First you have to ask yourself what you want to be doing in your living room. Is your living room
going to be a place to spend time with friends and family, entertaining people and whatnot? Or,
is it primarily going to be an entertainment center; a place to watch television, movies, listen to music,
etc. What living room design you choose should reflect its basic function.

Back in the day, living room designs were centered on entertaining guests and spending time with friends
and family. These kinds of living rooms are still common today in homes with a little more space
available in them. The idea to these kinds of living room designs should be to provide a comfortable
environment conducive to conversation. A big screen TV with one or more couches facing it isn't
really going to work, as its hard to carry on a conversation and entertain guests when everyone is facing
the same direction. A circle or semi-circle of couches and chairs facing inward toward each other,
surrounding a coffee table of some kind, is a much better suited living room design for entertaining
         guests.

Unfortunately, most of us don't have enough rooms in our homes and apartments to spare an entire
one to just jabbing away with friends. It's for this reason the older style living room designs
are becoming less popular. Most of us end up using our living rooms as a sort of 'TV room',
and the living room design reflects that. Here, a couch and chairs facing the television with a
table of some kind laid out in front is appropriate and conducive to laying around watching the tube.

Where then does one entertain guests when you have this sort of TV room living room design? More
often than not, I end up hanging out with friends in my kitchen; it is large enough to have a table and
chairs, and is more conducive to talking than sitting in front of a television. I don't know
about you, but I think it's a little strange to come over to a friends house and just sit there watching
TV, unless of course they live nearby or are friends you see every day.

A living room design that is both conducive to talking and watching TV seems like a good compromise,
but is hard to do. It's a good test of your interior design talents, however!

Lava lamps, a kitschy item from the sixties and seventies, started making a comeback in the nineties
and are still going strong over a decade later. Aside from being interesting to look at, they make
excellent conversation pieces and they can bring a soft glow of light to a corner that would be overpowered
         by a regular bulb lamp.

You can find lava lamps for bargain prices in many retail novelty stores or through many sites online.
More rarely, you could even encounter an original lava lamp from decades ago at a yard sale or a flea
market. Ebay is also a great place to look if you have a particular style and color in mind.

Lava lamps are sometimes referred to as hippie lamps because they originated at a time when people either
had funky decor (the hippies) or went with a more simple and clean-cut approach (the conservatives) to
decorating. It is forty years since the introduction of the original lava lamp and the rules for
owning these funky lamps have changed. Lava lamps are no longer considered a hippie item, but instead
a retro design piece and a way to approach lighting in a unique and interesting way.

The first lava lamps came in a pretty basic style—colored lava suspended in clear liquid, or oil.
The lava settles at the bottom of the lamp when the lava lamp is not on, but as soon as the lamp is clicked
on the lava in the bottom begins to heat and slowly floats to the top. It can take up to thirty
minutes for lava lamps to fully heat up and reach optimal temperature, and in this time the lava does
not rise or bubble in a uniform pattern, rather it slowly dances and stretches inside the lamp.
Once lava lamps are properly heated, the lava bubbles and flows rapidly inside the lamp, creating a bubbling
         effect.

Some precautions about lava lamps are necessary. It is important to keep lava lamps out of extreme
cold. Cold can crack the outer glass part of the lamp and also cause the lava to break off into
small pieces. Shaking a lava lamp should also be avoided, as it will cause the lava to break up
and tiny bubbles to form in the liquid at the top of the lamp. Lava lamps are meant to house a
large piece of lava inside an oily liquid fluid. When the lava separates into tiny pieces it can
mix with the oil and may never form back into the original large piece.

Whatever your reason for owning lava lamps, whether it brings back memories of the lamp you had as a
child or in your college apartment, or if you just discovered the beauty of hot lava floating in oil
and want to have one for your first apartment, one thing is for sure: Lava lamps are trendy lighting
that will never disappear from the world of interior design.

guess that I'm desperate to keep the antique.[...]

One of the benefits of buying an older home is the possibility of the previous owners leaving treasures
behind. Forgotten items are often left tucked away in the corner of the attic or in the basement.
Most of the objects are probably worthless; then again, sometimes they are very valuable. My husband
and I were pleasantly surprised to find a black wrought iron bed in the attic of our new home.

The iron bed is in perfect condition and it is absolutely beautiful. It looks very old and I do
think that it is an antique. The value of it is not so important because I have no plans for selling
it. The headboard and footboard look as if they were handcrafted by a very talented craftsman.
The iron bed is detailed with brass details that reflect light beautifully.

The find came about when my husband was trying to install a ceiling fan in our bedroom. The iron
bed was shoved in a corner of the attic. Our attic is quite small and my husband can't even
stand up in the space without hunching over to avoid hitting his head. He didn't like the idea
of working in the small space so he procrastinated for months.

There are no lights up there either and this added to his aversion to the attic space. He was working
with a portable work light that just happened to catch a glimmer of the brass detailing out of the corner
of his eye. After crawling into the corner of the little attic he called down to me that he found
         a wrought iron bed frame.

This was especially welcomed news to me because we didn't have a headboard for our bed. I also
love antiques so the iron bed seemed to be the perfect addition to my decor. Once the entire frame
was cleaned and assembled, I fell in love with the old piece of furniture. Needless to say I was
extremely disappointed to discover that we couldn't use it.

We have a king sized mattress and frame that my husband is very attached to and so am I. We couldn't
imagine sleeping in a smaller bed. My precious wrought iron bed is queen-sized and this may seem
acceptable but we are just too accustomed to the larger bed.

At first, I thought it was the perfect size, but I was wrong. It was quite a disappointment.
I still have no plans to sell the old wrought iron bed. If my husband and I can't use it, maybe
our daughter can. She could be the only toddler on the block who has a queen-sized bed. I
guess that I'm desperate to keep the antique.

Are you a shopping junkie? Don't get me wrong; I'm not judging you. I am just curious
how you spend you hard-earned cash. So many people these days flood the parking lots of malls everywhere.
It's like they can't get enough of the food court or something. I mean why else would they
be so interested in paying retail price for everything they purchase? While the shopping malls
and outlets certainly serve their purpose in the big scheme of shopping, they hardly offer prices that
can vie with what's available these days. Get real; buying online is so much cheaper.

Living with three girls, I definitely get my weekly dose of the mall scene. They are always interested
in checking out the new clothes at Banana Republic or Nordstrom's. I guess I can understand
their passion for outfits and accessories, but I don't understand buying them in a department store
at retail cost when you could be buying online for much less.

Now granted, there are sales at times that prove worthwhile, but overall the Internet will save you some
major bucks. Have you ever tried buying online, and seeing what's available in cyberspace?
When you shop at a mall, you are so limited to stores and options. However, if you're buying
online, you literally have the world at your fingertips to browse through. How can the local shopping
center compete with that? Wouldn't you rather see all competitors vying for your business by
offering the lowest price out there? This is worth anyone's time.

If you're not buying online, then you're probably still battling the crowds and searching for
a parking space. While many people are unaffected by this inevitable routine, it irks others beyond
belief. I am one of those individuals who prefer buying online over paying retail cost at the store
downtown. Even if I spot something I want, I immediately hop on the World-Wide-Web and start searching.
Chances are you will find anything you're shopping for online.

The best part is the convenience of it all. If you're buying online, then you're most likely
relaxing from the comfort of your couch, while sipping a coffee. Everything is delivered straight
to your door. Stop wasting your time and hard-earned money at the local mall, and begin buying
online today. Everything you've ever dreamed of can be found in cyberspace. It's
an infinite universe of stores and deals.

Are you a winter person or a summer person? Or maybe you're partial to the milder months of
spring and fall. I know I prefer the autumn breeze over all. There's just something about
that crisp, fall air whipping colorful leaves in all direction. Regardless of your seasonal preferences,
one thing is for certain; you want to be comfortable. And we all know that being comfortable mostly
has to do with the temperature of our environments. Well, and of course whether you're hot-natured
or cold-natured. Being a hot-natured fellow myself, I find it often difficult to stay cool.
Especially in the hot summer months.

Now, on the other hand, if you're a cold-natured individual, then you probably have difficulty keeping
warm. Fortunately there are answers to all of our problems. For me it's called central
air. For you there may be a few more options to choose from. Have you ever heard of radiant
floor heating? This is a popular one these days.

How do you keep your house cool in the summer time? With air conditioning, right? Maybe you
also enjoy a personal or community swimming pool on those scorching summer days. Regardless, people
generally never seem to complain about the heat. Of course in the winter months it's a different
story. This time of year everyone is scrambling for the best and most efficient ways to keep warm.
One of the more new-age concepts is radiant floor heating. This basically heats the floors throughout
         your home.

This way you never take that dreadful morning step onto that hardwood floor and wince. With radiant
floor heating, your hardwoods are always warm. From forced heat, to wood stoves, to gas fireplaces,
people are always taking advantage of great ways to keep the homestead warm. I was rather shocked
the first time I encountered radiant floor heating first hand. I was visiting my brother up north
one cold January, and was virtually shocked that his hardwood and linoleum floors were never cold.
He said that when he and his wife had their house built, they took advantage of radiant floor heating.
Since they're without a doubt summer folks, this was the perfect choice for them.

If you are interested in radiant floor heating and other ways to keep your home cozy in the winter time,
I suggest you hop online for solutions. You can even find the least expensive ways to keep your
entire home warm for the winter season.

rush around, but also I had another mishap to further mess up the flow of my already lousy morning; I
was out of instant coffee. I barely had time to stop by the local coffee drive-thru and get myself
a hot cup of joe brewed from their automatic coffee maker.[...]

I used to have all of my coffee from instant crystals that I could just stick in hot water in the morning.
I am a late sleeper, and a heavy sleeper, not inclined towards the morning hours which my job requires
me to keep, so it is best if I can just roll out of bed, but on some water, and throw the crystals into
it to heat. I had not even considered an automatic coffee maker at the time.

Why bother getting up early and listening to the painfully slow plunking of the automatic drip coffee
maker as it slowly made my desperately needed coffee one drop at a time? Why bother with the measuring
of ingredients, which an automatic coffee maker requires. It seemed to me like I would always have
too much coffee or too little, and then would have to deal with the leftovers later. But with instant
coffee, I could have exactly how much I wanted right away. I figured that an automatic coffee maker
just would not be worth the trouble.

My attitude changed when, one day, I was running late for work. Not only did I have to get up and
rush around, but also I had another mishap to further mess up the flow of my already lousy morning; I
was out of instant coffee. I barely had time to stop by the local coffee drive-thru and get myself
a hot cup of joe brewed from their automatic coffee maker. I was absolutely amazed. The coffee
made by automatic coffee makers was simply so much better than what I had been drinking at home.

There was just no comparison at all between the two, and that's a fact. I went out that day
and bought myself an automatic coffee maker after work, and have been happy with it ever since.
The added convenient of instant is just simply not worth the loss in taste that you get through not using
an automatic coffee maker. And, if you really must sleep to the last minute (and you know who you
are out there) you can always just go on and do what I do: brew up your automatic coffee maker
the night before and then leave it sitting, keeping it hot all night.

The coffee will still taste just as good, and best of all, there it is waiting right there for your drinking
pleasure when you wake up the next morning. A wonderful solution. And if you like a really
strong caffeine injection, there are always automatic espresso makers too.

they are still around is because many of them have figured out how to become and stay successful.
Using basket supplies, you can create out of he ordinary services like creating a bouquet that looks
like flowers but is really made of fruit. Put it all in a basket and you have something people
would love to send to a loved one!

Basket supplies like artificial flowers, weaving materials, and other decorations can make your basket
business a hit too! You can use basket supplies to create Easter baskets that are sold in front
of local grocery stores or on the Internet. You can also use basket supplies to create traditional
         gift baskets that include flowers.

One thing is certain, if you want to be successful at a small home business, you have to think out of
the box. In our example of a basket business, using basket supplies to create ordinary baskets
that every other company has a version of probably will not get you very far.

Your business will have a leg up on the competition if you incorporate a fresh and innovative approach
to your gift basket ideas. Perhaps creating a basket that showcases a favorite sport or movie would
be a hit. In addition to tickets to the movie or a game you could add some candy or popcorn, maybe
even a coupon for dinner to go with it.

Creating a product people will want that you can place in a basket is the avenue you'll need to take.
If you are creative with basket supplies and keep the traditional gift basket idea in mind while at the
same time adding your own unique twist will help people to see the intent of your products and increase
the possibility of consumers being interested in them.

True to form, an antique is said to be any object (not necessarily artistic in nature) that is more than
a hundred years old. There are all kinds of antiques that people collect, but among the most fascinating
are antique boxes. Of course, I don't expect you to share my view as all antiques are personal
favorites. But as far as I am concerned, antique boxes represent the spirit of the antique that
         we all find so fascinating.

For me antique boxes spell treasure. I grew up reading stories of treasure chests and pirates like
Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island, the Swiss family Robinsons and the like. And in all of them,
there were these antique boxes that were always filled with the promise of treasure even if there was
no real treasure. But antique boxes have ever since held a tremendous fascination for me.

Imagine my surprise then when I stopped by my regular bookshop to disciver that he had a number of antique
boxes displayed prominently at the counter. Of course he had gone one step further to pack these
antique boxes with books to reinforce the treasure that lay in books and reading, by my entire being
was consumed by the sight, smell and look of those antique boxes.

I immediately rushed in to ask him where he had procured them. He was more than an acquaintance
and knew all about my fascination with antique boxes. Even then, he feigned ignorance for a while
before breaking down helplessly in laughter. As he lay there with tears of mirth streaming down
his eyes, I could not but help wonder anxiously about the antique boxes and how h had managed to get
his hands on them. When he had calmed down sufficiently, he told me the truth.

Seems there were a number of people like me in the world who found ancient antique boxes (with or without
any treasure) fascinating. And one proactive Chinese company had decided to capitalize on this
fascination by making near actual replicas of antique boxes. While I was initially disappointed,
a closer examination led me to believe that if the boxes I saw were replicas of antique boxes, they were
damn good replicas. And as they were priced very affordably unlike the real thing, I decided then
and there to get myself a couple of them. Now I too am a proud owner of a couple of antique boxes.

        warehouse in the future.[...]

When we moved into our home five years ago we brought the furniture and accessories that we had used
in our former home. We moved from a 10 year old country home into a 100 year old lake home, so
some of the accessories needed to be changed. Our lake home features oak trim throughout the house.
We decided that we needed to replace our maple occasional tables with oak coffee tables.

Our maple tables were in good shape. Our neighbor was having a garage sale so we placed our tables
on the sale. We did not have room for them in our house if we were going to be buying oak coffee
tables. One of the shoppers at the garage sale purchased the tables for the price we were asking.
We would use this money to help pay for the new oak coffee tables.

Our neighbor suggested checking at a large unclaimed freight warehouse that is located close to our house.
The warehouse handles a great deal of furniture and is reasonably priced. I had passed the warehouse
many times but had never shopped there. I was surprised at the amount and variety of merchandise
that they carried. The largest section of the warehouse was filled with furniture. The furniture
was name brand and could be custom ordered in what ever upholstery you wanted. The furniture was
greatly reduced in price. The warehouse buys out merchandise from stores that are going out of
         business and resells it.

I found a large selection of oak coffee tables in a variety if shapes and sizes. One style was
a replica of an antique table that my grandmother used to own. I thought the style would fit in
well with the age of our home, and would compliment the woodwork and existing furniture. I purchased
two of the oak coffee tables as well as a matching lamp stand for the living room area. I had the
choice to take the purchases with me in boxes which would involve assembling the legs once I got home,
or they would deliver the tables already assembled. The sales clerk showed me the simple assembly
that would be required. I decided that we could assemble the tables at home. They loaded
         the tables in my SUV.

My husband and I were able to assemble the oak coffee tables in a matter of minutes. They match
the woodwork very well. By purchasing the tables at the warehouse and doing our own assembly we

If you have a room that you just don't know how to decorate consider mural wallpaper. Whether
you have a small dark bedroom that needs something special or a kid's playroom that you would love
to bright up, mural wallpaper is the perfect decoration.

Available in a myriad of designs, today's designs are not the same green jungle glossy junk that
graced your father's office twenty years ago. Mural wallpaper has come a long way since the
80´s and it is now ready for anyone to hang in their home.

The great thing about wallpaper is that it's quick and easy to put up and doesn't leave a lingering
odour like some types of paints do. Even if you have zero decorating skill, it doesn't matter,
the mural wallpaper makes you look like you know what you're doing! And it radically transforms
a room in just a few short hours, from dingy and dull to a tropical paradise where the glowing sunset
looms romantically on the horizon all day long.

It is available through most decorating stores or you can order online, if you wish. There are
plenty of resources available and an astounding array of design choices. And mural wallpaper isn't
expensive. It makes changing your room a simple affair.

So, where does it fit in best? Well, it all depends on the design. A fun, colourful design
with balloons and clowns could brighten up a child's room and would look right at home! Your
children will be delighted. A more serious room needs a bit more moderation when choosing mural
         wallpaper.

Adult bedrooms are best with a calming scene, one that allows you to sleep, so go for soothing shades
and images, like a trickling brook, a flower garden, etc. And don't forget mural wallpaper
for the bathroom as any type of water scene could work. Bathrooms are small, so they do well with
an image to open them up along one wall. Just make sure you check that the wallpaper you plan to
buy is okay to use in a humid area. If not, you could end up with running ink or even soggy wallpaper
         in a few months.

A dark living room could benefit from a tropical beach, a forest scene or even just a wall full of fluffy
white clouds, but don't use mural wallpaper in a room where there are lots of windows and a great
view. Mural wallpaper should be used as a subtle backdrop to a comfortable room with no other main
features or it should be used as the conversation piece, but never to distract from another, better view.
Use your best judgement and it will look fine.

I recently completed a series of labyrinth designs for my back yard. A man of affluent means living
on a hundred acres in the middle of rural wherever, I have the luxury to indulge my passions, and chief
among these passions is a passion for earthworks of all types, especially for labyrinth designs.

It goes back, I think, all the way to my studies of Greek myths as a child, and the story of the fantastic
labyrinth designed by Daedalus to hide King Minos' dirty little secret, and the bane of the Theban
youth, the Minotaur. I always used to imagine labyrinth designs worthy to trap and hold such a
monster, how its chosen victims would be forced into the labyrinth, and unable to find their way back
out, trapped as fodder for the Minotaurs insatiable appetite.

Of course, nothing beats my first real experience in a labyrinth. It was with my first girlfriend,
Sheila. We were sixteen and she was a Wiccan, rebelling against her parents' Christian orthodoxy.
We found labyrinth designs in a supposed book of magic and witchcraft, and began to construct one in
the woods. The labyrinth design could be built with nothing but cornstarch, but we decided to get
more elaborate than that and cut it out of the overgrown hedges which grew down by the pond in the woods,
on the edge of town. We picked one of the more complex labyrinth designs, and were unable to actually
complete it, running out of shrubs long before we were done, but we did have quite a bit of fun in the
back of the half-completed labyrinth, a first for the both of us.

The labyrinth designs I have been building lately are of more sturdy stuff. They are built of huge
flagstones, conveniently located at an abandoned quarry some thirty miles from my home. Every day,
I drive out there in my pickup truck, and come back with a flatbed full of rock, which I then spend the
rest of the morning, and most of the afternoon laying. I made the labyrinth designs myself, and
one of them is already complete, with the next one well on its way. I hope to be finished by the
summer solstice, when I will have all my friends over to get completely drunk and hopelessly lost in
the labyrinths. They will be talking about it for years.

Don't want to lock up for the night but are determined to keep pests out and loved ones in?
Retractable screens might be what you're looking for.

These screen live up to their name and retract into a small housing when not in use. When the screen
is needed it is simply pulled back into position.

This provides a protective covering which keeps pests out and also secures the opening to keep babies
and pets inside. There are retractable screens for windows and doors, as well as double doors.
Customizable retractable screens are also available from some companies and can fit most any type of
door including in-swings, out-swings, French, sliding patio, sliding glass, skylight, and screens for
vehicles and boats. They can be customized for color and décor as well.

They provide a suitable but attractive barrier against insects. Furthermore, some have the capacity
to reduce sunlight or black out light completely. Most retractable screens are weatherproof and
can be installed on the inside or outside of the building.

Online companies allow you to specify the exact measurements that you need, ensuring it will be to your
liking. Costs of materials are not expensive and can generally be delivered within a week.
Many retractable screens though must be installed. This does not require a professional installer,
merely someone who has some mechanical aptitude. Even if you lack mechanical skills, retractable
screens do come with easy to follow instructions. Installation will require simple tools and should
take about half an hour to install.

Quality units are contained in extruded aluminum housing, while lesser products are usually made of roll
formed aluminum or plastic housing. Magnetic catches attach to the housing to better secure the
closure; quality brands are full length whereas some lesser brands provide a magnetic catch at the top
and bottom only. Most of these types of screens will come with a one-year warranty and some high
quality brands will offer 2 years.

Finally, some companies offer customizable motorized retractable screens. While more expensive
than typical screens, motorized screens are ideal for people who are disabled or simply want the maximum
level of convenience. Motorized versions can be operated as a group or individually. Radio
and infrared remote can also be added. Naturally these features cost extra and will increase the
         price.

This summer you can keep pests out and a cool breeze coming in, with only as much sunlight as you want.
The convenience and safety of retractable screens make it nearly impossible to be satisfied with a regular
         screen door or window.

What keeps you all warm and toasty on those frigid winter nights? Is it a mundane central heating
system or a nice crackling fireplace? There is still something to be said about the old-school
methods. Although most of the human race has conformed in one way or another to technology, I do
believe there's still a certain yearning for the older ways. I mean come on, who doesn't
love a classic stone wood burning fireplace?

These are ideal from many aspects. You can gaze joyfully at the whipping flames as they surrender
you to relaxation. You can roast hotdogs or marshmallows in the comfort of your home. Not
to mention that they're just plain old romantic. What else could you ask for? Well, I
guess in reality the older methods of heating aren't quite as efficient as some of the contemporary
ones. Or are they? What do you know about wood burning stoves?

The entire time I grew up, I simply loved to kick back and relax next to our wood burning stove.
The heat it radiated was phenomenal. Well, at least in the room it stood in. While it did
you a pretty decent job heating the rest of our home, I would have to admit that the warmth was not quite
as strong in other rooms. Regardless, we all loved it. There was nothing like coming in on
a cold winter's day and soaking up all that good clean heat. It practically made me fall asleep.

These days I must say that I'm still infatuated with wood burning stoves. In fact I plan to
have one in my permanent home. They're not like a fireplace you know. The cleaning process
is rather different. With wood burning stoves, all of the ashes and mess are contained inside.
So you won't spend your time vacuuming and sweeping around them. In fact, with wood burning
stoves there are basically only a few things to remember. Always keep the chimney clean, as with
a fireplace. Make sure you empty the ashes regularly. And keep it stocked with fire wood.

That's pretty much it. However, these days wood burning stoves are a tad more advanced.
Did you know that you can find ones that will heat 80 percent of your home? That's fairly decent
I would say. Heck, sometimes our forced heat fails to do that. I'm always finding cold
areas of the house. If you are interested in wood burning stoves, it's a synch to hop online
         and get the rundown.

Years ago, the department store, K-Mart used to have blue light specials that literally involved a blue
light. I really can't remember the details because it has been such a long time since these
specials were in full force but I think that employees used to put a flashing blue light next to a pile
of merchandise. If you bought the item within a set amount of time, you got a significant discount.

This marketing strategy is not the most intelligent if you think about it. Chances were that the
customers in the store in that particular moment in time did not want or need the selected merchandise.
Maybe this is why the blue light special is no more.

There is a certain appeal to K-Mart's old blue light special idea if you are a gambler. Perhaps
you have nothing better to do besides hang out in a store all day hoping for the right price cut on the
right items. There is some kind of game show quality of the marketing concept as well.

What amazes me about the whole concept is that it lasted as long as it did. From what I remember,
K-Mart ran its blue light specials for years and years. During that entire span of time I don't
believe that my mother purchased a single item through the promotion.

It just makes sense that we know about the sale items in advance. Knowing that there are great
deals on specific items that we want or need is a major draw. The blue light special was simply
         too random for sensible shoppers.

The emergence of the shopping giant, Wal-Mart has put the retail industry on its ear. For awhile,
many of us thought that K-Mart was going down in flames. Concepts like the blue light special didn't
help matters for the struggling company.

However, with the recent merge between K-Mart and Sears things seem to be taking a turn for the good
for this retail chain. This store now offers amazing deals on quality craftsman tools. I
just bought an 18-volt cordless drill for less than 45 dollars. No blue light special involved.

The merge between the two companies provide a great resource for savvy shoppers who want American-made
quality items at reasonable prices. I think that K-Mart has pulled itself out of the ashes to create
a nice shopping experience for its customers. It has definitely come a long way since the blue
         light special.

A lawn is always a great addition to any home. Many potential homeowners will not buy a house that
does not have one. Though this is a great feature, it does come with the extra expense of lawn
equipment. The biggest piece of lawn equipment you may have to purchase is a lawn mower.
Your budget will determine what kind you get, but many with a large lawn like to buy the riding variety.
Riding lawnmowers are often versatile pieces of lawn equipment because they can be used for many other
         things as well.

If you want a garden, another piece of lawn equipment you may want to look into is a rototiller.
These are used to dig up the dirt so the garden can be planted. You can do this by hand, but it
often is backbreaking work and many want the extra help. Other items you might want to consider
when buying lawn equipment are hedge trimmers, shovels, hoes, weed eaters, and tree trimming equipment.
These are things you will find a need for at one point in time or another.

Lawn equipment can be purchased at stores that specialize in equipment, but you can also find lawn equipment
in large department stores like Sears. Sears, depending on which store you visit, has a large home
and garden department with many types of lawn equipment from which to choose. Other retailers like
Wal-Mart, K-mart, and JC Penny may also have the same stuff. If you go to one of these places,
keep an eye out for the best deal. Because they can be high priced items, many stores like to keep
         competitive prices.

The best time of year to buy lawn equipment might be spring, or late summer and early fall. Some
stores have specials in spring because that is when a lot of people begin to think about taking care
of their lawn for yet another year. If you look in late summer or early fall, you can find great
deals on lawn equipment because the stores are trying to get rid of the stuff they have not sold during
         the summer months.

You can also find lawn equipment on eBay and other online auction sites. The tricky thing about
this is knowing what condition the equipment might be in, and it may be unrealistic to get large pieces
of lawn equipment shipped to your home. If you want to go the used or discount route, you might
be better off sticking to the classified ads in your local paper.

fire pit because we tell them that they need to stay on this side of the tiles.[...]

There are many things that a person can do to enhance the value of your property and also to increase
your curb appeal. One inexpensive way of doing this is through the use of patio tile. This
may take some sweat and patience but the results are well worth the time and energy. Properly installed
patio tile gives a professional finish to any landscaping project.

You can find the patio tile in a variety of styles, sizes and colors at most home improvement stores
and also at gardening centers. We have found that the workers at both locations are very good at
giving pointers about the proper installation of the patio tile and also what tools to purchase to make
the job as easy as possible.

We have used a variety of patio tile in our yard. We used what is called bullet nosed tiles to
border our flower beds. The bullet nosed tiles fit into each other and are placed by digging a
2 inch trench along the flower beds to be bordered. This leaves a professional looking edging that
is easy to mow next to. We also used this same type of tile around our gazebo in the yard.
This edging holds the decorative rock that we placed around the gazebo area in place. This is a
very cost effective edging that can be placed in a very short period of time.

We also used flat patio tile as stepping stones in a path along our flower garden area. We placed
the tiles at varying distances from each other to create a whimsical feel to the garden path area.
Once the grass grew up around the tiles they had the look of having been placed years ago. Our
home is over a hundred years old so this is the effect that we wanted to create. The flat patio
tile is available in round, square or rectangle shapes and also come in various thicknesses. This
way you can decide how deep you want to place them in the ground.

We have also used patio tile to mark the area to place our fire ring. This helps to keep the grass
looking nice in the fire ring area and also is easy to mow around. It is also safer for having
children around the fire pit because we tell them that they need to stay on this side of the tiles.
We have found many uses for the inexpensive patio tile around our yard.
